Wood used
A mix of domestic and imported hard woods suitable in physical characteristics and esthetic:
strong, finishes well, workability.
2. Durability
Water, heat / sunlight, shock(dropping) and contact with caustic chemicals will damage wood object. The type of wood and the finish determine the durability as do care and handling. Compared to metal wood is less resistant to damage but will last for centuries if properly cared for.
3. Finishes
・Oil modified water borne polyurethane for “boats” and bracelets.
・Beeswax. (rings mostly)
・Odies oil / wax, oil for bowls, cutting boards.
・Paste wax for maintenance.
4. How is ring made?
Very carefully! Rings are made from strips of wood which I glued together to make stock to cut rings, then shaped them by hand using various tools.
5. Do I accept refinishing?
Yes. Use any oil finish compatible with Odies oil / wax finish.
Shouldn’t need it if maintained (wax.)
If damaged finish (poly) would have to refinish whole thing.
Bowls, cutting boards/ Give instruct on how to re oil.
6. How to care for ring?
・Wax—re-coat, buff when needed.
・Poly—wipe with damp, cloth if dirty.
・Wax, buff for sheen.
・Odies oil reapply and buff when needed.
・Do not immerse in water for long periods - segmented especially. The glue
holding segments together is waterproof.
・Wood reacts to water even if sealed with a finish.
・Beeswax is applied hot and soaks deep into the wood which will
preserve the color and protect against chemicals and water damage.
・Keep away from extreme temperatures.
